Students exchange program – University of Jaffna and University of Ruhuna
organized by the Social Reconsiliation Center, Department of Sociology and the Cultural Center, University of Ruhuna in collaboration with Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), Ministry of Justice, Prison Affaires and Constitutional Reforms

The “Wings of Brotherhood” Phase II was a five-day student exchange program between the University of Jaffna and the University of Ruhuna, held from November 29 to December 3, 2023. Organized by the Social Reconciliation Center, University of Ruhuna, in collaboration with the Office for National Unity and Reconciliation (ONUR), the program aimed to foster trust and unity between the North and South of Sri Lanka among the younger generation.

Students from the University of Jaffna were welcomed by their Ruhuna counterparts and stayed with them for five days. The program featured various activities, including tree planting, beach cleaning, cultural exchanges, and Shramadana (community service) in Matara. Visits to local landmarks like the Blow Hole and Dewndara Vishnu Kovil were also included to enrich the cultural experience. The program’s highlight was a keynote speech by Prof. Premakumara de Silva on cultural receptivity and tolerance, emphasizing the importance of a peaceful future for Sri Lanka. The exchange concluded successfully, underlining the significance of building trust and unity among the youth.
